Gaslighting: Why You Should Trust Your Intuition
Being gaslighted is the process of having your life completely disrupted by people who don’t care about you...or the truth, but tell you to comply because what they’re doing is “for your safety."
Gaslight was a play, made into a movie in 1944 starring Ingrid Bergman and Charles Boyer, as Paula and Gregory. Newly married, they moved into a London home where Paula was once traumatized. Paula begins to “forget” events, “lose” objects, and to “imagine” things no one else sees or hears, such as footsteps in an attic room that is nailed shut, or the gas lamps dimming without being touched. Turns out ol’ Gregory, who always acts concerned and supportive, is actually psychologically torturing Paula. He wants her committed to a mental institution so he can get his hands on her inheritance. Hence, the term “gaslighting” was born.
It’s horrible what some people will do for money. Equally compelling for some is the draw of power, or reputation, which circle back to money in the long run. I submit in this post that we have been gaslighted throughout the pandemic, by people elected, and otherwise, who have placed money, reputation, personal agendas, and power ahead of the public health and welfare.
Gaslighting during the pandemic involves being told to question the evidence of your own eyes and intellect. Being gaslighted is the process of having your life completely disrupted by people who don’t care about you, your family, friends, freedom, or the truth, but tell you to comply because what they’re doing is “for your safety.” Examples abound:
Candidate Biden downplays and denigrates any vaccine produced by the Trump Administration’s efforts, only to embrace those same vaccines once elected, and then proceed to mandate that they be jabbed into Americans’ arms. “Be a good girl and boy. Take your medicine.”
Anthony Fauci states that masks might make people “feel safer,” but they won’t significantly prevent the spread of disease. In a private email, he explains that the Covid virus can pass through the masks most people are wearing. The same Anthony Fauci later states two masks are better than one, and that everyone should wear them, including children, making the U.S. the only developed country in the world to mask children in school.
CDC Director Robert Redfield lies and defies the conclusions of the WHO, the Cochrane Clinical, the National Academy of Medicine and Sciences, and even the CDC’s own studies to declare in a September 2020 Senate hearing, “We have clear scientific evidence they work, and they are our best defense. I might even go so far as to say that this face mask is more guaranteed to protect me against Covid than when I take a Covid vaccine.”
His statement flies in the face of the only large-scale study ever conducted in a developed nation during a pandemic. The study of almost 6,000 people in Denmark over several months’ time found that the difference in infection rates between masked and non-masked individuals, was less than 1%.
Yet these are the people who are making decisions that impact all of us. But, hey!, they are just “following the Science,” so you should listen to them. In fact, if you question Dr. Fauci, he will inform you that to criticize him is to criticize science – just in case you were thinking there might be a difference between the two.
Never before has the government pushed so hard for a vaccine, and never before have they instilled so little confidence in vaccine efficacy. The government has done an excellent job, however, of scaring people and causing them to turn against each other.
Today David Leonhardt of The New York Times wrote, “About 1,500 Americans have died of Covid every day over the past week…And the main reason is that millions of Americans have chosen to remain unvaccinated.” Is it? First of all, let’s be clear. In the U.S. almost 8,000 people die every day due to all causes. People like Leonhardt, Fauci, Walensky, and many others talk about Covid as if no one would die, if only everyone had the vaccine. That’s not how it works.
Covid has always been, and continues to be, a disease that is dangerous to the elderly, the overweight, and those with other serious health issues. It is not a high risk disease for the majority of the healthy population, as evidenced by the death statistics. Children especially are at almost no risk due to Covid infection, yet you wouldn’t know that by listening to many of the “experts.”
U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, and CDC Director Walensky insist that school children ages 5-11 be required to wear face masks to protect against spread of disease, even after they’ve been vaccinated. They completely ignore the data regarding both children’s low risk due to Covid, and the actual harms to their development being caused by pandemic restrictions.
Yes, I know people who have been ill with Covid, some even seriously ill, and I know people who have died of Covid. But COVID-19 does not merit the panic that has surrounded it, and that continues to be pushed by the government, public health experts, and the media. The data does not support the response.
Nor does data support the idea that only the unvaccinated are spreading Covid. It turns out that vaccinated people also can contract and spread Covid. Gratefully, most of us are not at risk, and those who are have the ability to protect themselves. Yet the Covid mandates are ratcheting up in parts of the U.S. As we’ve seen, if he could Pres. Joe Biden would be engaged in the unconstitutional imposition of vaccine mandates on every American. On October 22, 2021 CDC Director Walensky reversed her position of a month prior to say, “We may need to update our definition of ‘fully vaccinated’ in the future.” She encouraged everyone who is eligible to get their booster shot.
For anyone who wonders what changing the definition of “fully vaccinated” means, I recommend looking up the “green pass” in Israel, the “opportunity pass” in Lithuania, and the “vaccine passport” in Bahrain. I also suggest looking up the Covid situation in Australia and New Zealand.
I’ve not heard one word of reprimand from the government of the United States of America for the violations of civil liberties happening in Australia, Israel, New Zealand and other countries. That means it is only our Constitution, and the people who know it and are fighting for it, who are standing between us and tyranny.
Merriam-Webster defines gaslighting as “psychological manipulation…over an extended period of time that causes the victim to question the validity of their own thoughts, perception of reality, or memories and typically leads to confusion, loss of confidence and self-esteem, uncertainty of one’s emotional or mental stability, and a dependency on the perpetrator.”
“Dr. Fauci, can we go trick-or-treating this year? Will we be allowed to gather over Thanksgiving and Christmas?”
“President Biden, is it okay if we run our businesses the way we see fit, instead of becoming vaccine police for the government?”
“Governor Newsom, would you mind if parents make the medical decisions about their own children?”
“Governor Hochul, is it all right with you if we treat people equally and allow everyone access to all government and private services?”
“Director Walensky, If we’re really good and get vaccinated, can we please take off our masks?”
When did Americans become such wimps? Well, they’ve been gaslighted. The official mantra throughout the pandemic has been that human intervention controls the spread of Covid. If we distance, wear face masks, and do as we’re told, we’re safe and cases fall. If cases rise, it’s because we haven’t been good enough. Yet the data will have none of it. There isn’t one long-term example from any county, state, or country that demonstrates that masking, social distancing, and other restrictions have prevented the spread of COVID-19.
The gaslighting isn’t limited to Covid, though. We’re seeing it everywhere. The Department of Health and Human Services just appointed Rachel Levine to be Assistant Secretary, becoming an admiral. Rachel is a transgender individual who "transitioned" in 2011. Levine was divorced in 2013, after being married to a woman since 1988 and fathering their two children. Levine is referred to as a "she," and is being touted as the first openly transgender person to be appointed by the Senate.
The media reports, "Levine's appointment also made her the organization's first female four-star officer." Rep. Jim Banks of Indiana tweeted, “The title of first female four-star officer gets taken by a man,” and promptly had his Twitter account shut down until he deletes the tweet because he “violated” Twitter’s rules against “hateful conduct.” The gaslighting mantra is that women and fair-minded people everywhere should be grateful to Twitter. I’m not, and I suspect I’m not alone. Being considerate to trans people should not extend to canceling women.
Gaslighting applies to gasoline, too. When you fill up at the gas station these days, or stop by the grocery store, you feel the pinch, but White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki’s response to inflation is, “Now more people have jobs, more people are buying goods, that’s increasing the demand. That’s a good thing.” Thanks, Jen.
Not content to leave “the Science” to the pandemic response, the phrase is now being applied to supply chain issues. “I have a significant amount of confidence that they are bringing science and experts to the table to make sure that they approach this judiciously,” said Ellen Hughes-Cromwick, former chief economist at the Commerce Department under Obama.
You’ve heard the phrase, “It’s not rocket science!” It’s meant to convey the idea that the answer is obvious and straightforward, which indeed it is. The government needs to get out of the way and let business resume as usual. Let the American people return to their lives.
Instead, Pres. Biden leaves vaccine restrictions and mandates in place and orders two California ports to operate 24/7. There are 926 ports in the U.S. through which overseas trade passes. Biden also asked Walmart, Target, and other retailers to consider staying open 24/7, so that consumers have more opportunity to shop. Note to Pres. Biden: If the shelves aren’t stocked, staying open longer doesn’t help.
With continuous Covid mandates wreaking havoc in police departments, fire departments, schools, hospitals, state governments, the military, the supply chain, and other places of employment, many people of integrity have had their livelihoods stripped from them. Rather than be forced into an unconstitutional medical mandate, they’ll quit.
Biden whispers into the mike “Get vaccinated!” and then stomps off without taking questions from reporters. Psaki says inflation is a good thing. A former Commerce Department official says “the Science” is being applied to the supply chain issues. A U.S. Senator loses his Twitter account for calling a man, a man. Walensky and Fauci tell us how important it is for everyone to get vaccinated, while vaccinated people still contract Covid. And those ubiquitous masks just won’t seem to go away.
Gaslighting is alive and well in the U.S. I suggest that we all dust off our critical thinking skills and pay a little more attention to our intuition, and the observations of our own eyes. I’m guessing a large portion of people have a gut feeling that something is not right in America. I can tell you from my months of research and analysis, that the problem is not COVID-19.
